Course Description & Competency

This lecture and hands-on certification course is designed to provide formal training for dental auxiliaries to competently perform remediable tasks under the supervision of a licensed dentist, per Fla. Adm. Code R. 64B5-16.005.

Competency will be demonstrated through written and hands-on evaluations. Students will be trained and certified to perform:

  • Temporary restorations

  • Matrices and rubber dams

  • Cavity liners, varnishes, bases

  • Periodontal dressings

  • Retraction cord placement

  • Excess cement removal

  • Suture removal

  • Polishing restorations and crowns

  • Topical fluoride and sealants

  • Temporary crown cementation

  • Alginate impressions for diagnostic casts

  • Daniela Skeen, EFDA

    Daniela Skeen brings over 15 years of experience in clinical dentistry and leadership. A proud EFDA graduate of NSU, she was mentored by Dr. Ronald Hawk and developed expertise in surgical assisting, orthodontics, digital dentistry, and operational leadership. Today, she is a sought-after consultant, speaker, and instructor at NSU.

  • Dr. Donald Antonson, DDS, MEd

    Dr. Antonson is the Associate Dean for Continuing Education at NSU and has held numerous leadership roles at UF and UB. With over four decades of experience in clinical practice, research, and education, he has been recognized by national and international organizations for his contributions to the dental profession.
